Local and Taos County officials agree to additional leave days during negotiations. Read a recent article about the issues.

 

New Local 1193 Officers

New officers were recently elected for Local 1193:

  • President - Berna Jaramillo
  • Vice President - Michael Mooney
  • Secretary/Treasurer and Recording Secretary - Jeanna Elam

  • Local 1193 continues in negotiations with Taos County for fair wage increase for their membership.

    We welcome and encourage your questions, recommendations and concerns as they arise. Our Local will be a Local of Unity. We will move our Local forward together. We will face the challenges confronting one or all of us together. Our Local will continue to grow and develop; only becoming stronger. Our Voice - Our Rights - Our UNION!

    Council 18 Working for You!

    Council 18 continues to devote a major portion of its time, effort, and money toward servicing locals.

    The Council supports the locals in six major areas of servicing:

    •  Grievances, disciplinary actions, and  prohibited practice claims
    •  Proactive relations with city, county, and state  officials regarding policies
    •  Lawsuits
    •  Trainings, including steward trainings and safety trainings
    •  Safety inspections and advice
    •  Contract negotiations

    Grievance Form

    Guidelines for Writing a Grievance

    •  State the grievance in a concise description of the basic facts and information
    •  Don't include statements of personal opinion
    •  Don't include your evidence or arguments in the case - save those for when you meet with management
    •  List any and all management violations of the contract, work rules, etc., which apply; after you list specific contract articles, you may want to include a phrase such as "and all other applicable sections of the contract." This allows the chance to expand your arguments should additional details become known at a later time.
    •  Clearly state the desired remedy (that is, exactly what the grievance and/or the union want as a solution to the problem); make sure you ask the grievant what he/she wants before writing the remedy.
