Council 18 Working for You!
Council Representative Officers assisted Local 3370 Members with the following:
- Talked with President Martinez on condition of the work vehicles in the
Solid Waste Dept. being unsafe and in need of constant maintenance. CRO will
set up meeting with the city manager to discuss.
- Met with Steward Marquez and Member on working conditions and written reprimand. Will set up meeting with Personnel Dept., Member and her supervisor to try to resolve the office problems.

- Nadra Floyd Memorial Scholarship
A $2,000 renewable scholarship for AFSCME members and staff who would like to attend the National Labor College in Silver Spring, Maryland.
- Joey Parisi Scholarship
Available to a staff person or local officer who is a full-time or release-time AFSCME organizer, this scholarship covers tuition to the National Labor College.
- AFSCME Family Scholarship
Offers a $2,000 renewable scholarship to 10 high school seniors each year.
- Jerry Clark Memorial Scholarship
A collegiate scholarship for juniors and seniors who major in political science; it includes a summer internship in the AFSCME Political Action Department in Washington, D.C.

Grievance Form
Guidelines for Writing a Grievance
- State the grievance in a concise description of the basic facts and
information
- Don't include statements of personal opinion
- Don't include your evidence or arguments in the case - save those
for when you meet with management
- List any and all management violations of the contract, work rules,
etc., which apply; after you list specific contract articles, you may want
to include a phrase such as "and all other applicable sections of the
contract." This allows the chance to expand your arguments should additional
details become known at a later time.
- Clearly state the desired remedy (that is, exactly what the grievance and/or the union want as a solution to the problem); make sure you ask the grievant what he/she wants before writing the remedy.
